Things to do

sunloungerWe hope you love our special place as much as we do!! Our staff at  Villa Perle will assist you in any activity you may wish to pursue during your stay. Our area is one of intense beauty, so we do encourage you to spend some time exploring. Kasih, our preferred driver, will collect you from the villa in his clean, air conditioned car. Kasih speaks excellent English,  is polite and well informed about his beloved Bali.

However, don’t forget to spend some time doing absolutely nothing except gaze at our beautiful surroundings!

Kastala to Tenganan Trek

Trekking through our beautiful rice fields, and viewing spectacular scenery. This trek is of medium grade, and perfect for all ages. View the Balinese working in the fields as they have done for centuries. Your guide will be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding the ageless workings of the land and its produce.

Finishing at Tenganan, here is your perfect opportunity to purchase exquisitely woven wall hangings, table runners and sarongs fashioned in the traditional double ikat weave.Only here in Tenganan and Gujarat, India, is this rare textile still produced using natural dyes. Table mats, coasters and baskets are also woven in Tenganan, then fired and sun dried. Excellent quality prevails.

One of our drivers will meet you here, and return you by car to the villa.

Karangasem Tour

This is a must! The regency of Karangasem is a hypnotic mix of religion, Royal culture and architectural splendour.

Karangasem’s last Raja built his water palaces, Tirtagangga (now a public bathing area) and Ujung, the floating palace.Tirtagangga translates as “water of the Ganges”,and holds considerable reverence within the Hindu faith.  The  spectacular design of these two palaces still leaves me humbled. Both are a half hour drive from Villa Perle. The tour also passes the village of Budukeling where our local silver shop is located. Here you can watch jewelers at work as they work the silver into wonderful examples of bangles, earrings, necklaces etc. A favourite spot of my mother! This is a beautiful area where the farmers work the soil much as they have done for centuries.

Included in this tour, is a visit to our local weaving village, Tenganan, the home of the double ikat weave, where natural dyes are still used.

All the dining mats and coasters that you see in the villa are from Tenganan.

Amed Tour

The drive to Amed is stunning! You will view an incredible rice field valley that is simply breathtaking. Continuing on to Amed where snorkeling in the azure blue water is an absolute pleasure.Hundreds of jukung(traditional fishing boats) line the shores at Amed, making for a colourful vista. There are some funky little restaurants and cafes at Amed for lunch, before continuing back to the villa, via our local chocolate factory,  which is completely addictive!

Klung Kung Tour

Visit the oldest town in Bali. The market here is fascinating! An eclectic mix of fabrics, food, clothing and handicrafts. This is where the locals shop, and it is an Aladdin’s cave!

Motor into the hills to Siddemen for local weaving (single ikat), and proceed back to the villa via our local salt farmer where you can view the making of our delicious natural sea salt, and purchase some.

Ubud Tour

Ubud is approximately one hour away.

Ubud is the cultural centre of Bali. Artists have long been mesmerised by the creative energy that abounds in this mountain area of Bali.
Art Galleries, shopping, restaurants and the local markets make this a destination to spend the day, but be warned, Ubud is BUSY!!
We recommend the Eka Gallery, Uma, Indus Restaurant, and Hanaman Street for a variety of shopping.

jukung

Sailing and Snorkeling

Enjoy our beautiful coastline from the sailing comfort of the jukung (traditional sailing boat).Setting sail from our near by beach, the crystal clear water is perfect for fishing or snorkeling.Particularly popular with families, this activity is a relaxing way to spend a morning.Ensure that you are wearing block out, hat and glasses, and wear some old plimsolls or tennis shoes in case of broken coral etc.

Surfing.

Brenton, Malacauy and Billi(our family of Manly surfers),highly recommend Keramis Beach for great surfing.Located 40 minutes south of Villa Perle, this vast stretch of coastline will satisfy those wishing to catch some waves!Brenton and the boys often pop down here for a surf before breakfast.

Cooking Schools

We are fortunate to be so close to the famed Alila Manggis. Here you can practice your culinary skills grinding Balinese spices, and mixing curry pastes. Wonderful surroundings under which to learn!

Alternatively, for hands on cooking classes with a difference, Bali Asli is set amongst the tranquility of the rice fields with breathtaking views of Mt Agung.

White Sand Beach

A heavenly spot to idle away a morning. Lovely stretch of white sand beach with many a warung (casual dining restaurant) cooking fresh seafood.

 Ceremonial Days

The Balinese Calender is littered with Ceremonial days.
If you have the chance– attend our local temple and listen to the bewitching sounds of the gamelan, watch the ladies in their finery and view the spirituality that prevails within the Hindu faith.
You will also observe the daily offerings that are made within our villa to appease the Gods. Our staff are happy to answer any of your questions regarding their Hindu faith. The Balinese are very proud of their heritage and welcome your interest.
